A special Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has commenced an investigation into the May 9 rampage with the authorization of the anti-terrorism court (ATC). The ATC granted permission for the police to interrogate incarcerated PTI Chairman Imran Khan in six additional cases. A five-member high-ranking police team visited Attock Jail on Friday and questioned Imran Khan in various cases registered under sedition and anti-terrorist offenses.

Upon reaching Attock Jail, the investigating team was surrounded by a protesting mob opposing high electricity bills for over an hour.

The JIT interrogated Imran Khan about the addition of offenses under sections 121 (waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistan), 131 (abetting mutiny, or attempting to seduce a soldier, sailor, or airman from duty), and 146 (rioting) in the FIRs.

Other offenses under sections 120, 120-A, 120-B, 121-A, 505, 153, 153-A, 153-B, and 107 of the Pakistan Penal Code were also investigated. This includes the attacks on Askari Tower, Shadman police station, torching of PMLN offices in Model Town, and further inquiries about the corps commander’s house.

The DIG (Investigations), Lahore, who is the convener of the JIT, had sought permission to interrogate and arrest the PTI chief in an FIR registered by the police regarding the attack on Jinnah House, which also serves as the corps commander’s residence.
