A tragic incident unfolded as a helicopter crashed into an apartment building in Florida, resulting in the loss of two lives. While the authorities have confirmed that three people were on board the helicopter during the crash, their identities are yet to be revealed.
Tragic Helicopter Crash in Fort Lauderdale
At least two lives were lost and four individuals sustained injuries on Monday as a Broward County Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue helicopter crashed into an apartment building in Pompano Beach, a city within Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Fox News reported the incident.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office stated on social media, "At approximately 8:46am, emergency personnel responded to a call of an aircraft alert located southwest of the Pompano Beach Airpark. The helicopter involved in the crash is a BSO Fire Rescue helicopter."
Law enforcement sources, speaking anonymously, confirmed the casualties resulting from the aviation incident. Among the victims were Captain Terryson Jackson, a paramedic, and a woman who was inside her apartment when the crash occurred.
Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony expressed his condolences for Captain Terryson Jackson, highlighting his dedication and compassion in providing care during critical moments.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jackson family during this difficult time," Tony's statement read. "We would like to posthumously promote Captain Terryson Jackson to Battalion Chief."
Four others were also injured, including two local individuals who reportedly attempted to rescue the crew from the wreckage, as reported by Fox News.
Local media captured footage showing multiple fire vehicles battling the ensuing blaze after the helicopter collision. Authorities advised residents to avoid the area and temporarily closed nearby roadways.
Prior to the crash, video footage depicts the helicopter leaving a trail of smoke as it passes over rooftops.
The Federal Aviation Administration revealed that the helicopter's manifest listed three individuals on board; however, the identities of all the occupants remain unclear.
