ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, has expressed concerns over the safety of her incarcerated husband. In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday, she claimed that Imran Khan's life is in danger.
The affidavit was presented by Advocate Hamid Khan on behalf of Bushra Bibi. This submission is part of a case related to petitions against the trial of civilians in military court.
Bushra Bibi's Concerns about Imran Khan's Safety in Prison
Earlier in August, former PM Khan was jailed after the court sentenced him to three years in prison in the Toshakhana case related to the sale of state gifts he received as prime minister from foreign dignitaries during his 2018-22 tenure.
Consequently, he was also barred from politics for five years.
In accordance with the affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, expressed serious concerns about her husband's well-being during his incarceration. The affidavit detailed the difficulties and problems she faced in meeting Khan in Attock Jail on August 22.
The affidavit revealed that Khan's arm muscles have significantly weakened, a concern amplified by his age of 70, making his life potentially threatened. It also highlighted his willingness to endure any hardship for the sake of the country.
Earlier, on August 18, Bushra Bibi had raised alarms about her husband's security in prison, even suggesting that he could be poisoned while in Attock Jail. She formally conveyed her apprehensions to the Punjab home secretary, advocating for Imran Khan's transfer to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi as per the court's directions.
Bushra Bibi's letter emphasized that her husband, being an Oxford graduate and former captain of the national cricket team, should be provided B-class facilities in accordance with his social and political stature. She stressed that such amenities are not available in Attock Jail.
Furthermore, she pointed out that Khan had faced two assassination attempts in the past, with the culprits remaining at large. The letter emphasized the ongoing danger to his life and expressed the fear of poisoning while in Attock Jail. She appealed for him to have the privilege of consuming home-cooked meals due to his status as a former PM.
